This is the first part of a multi-part series on the Energetic Laws. The energetic laws are like the physical laws of the universe, governing cause and effect, but they operate on an energetic level. If that sounds like pseudoscientific nonsense, that’s okay — it kind of is.
But you don’t have to scientifically prove or disprove these laws — try them on and see for yourself whether or not what I’m articulating here plays out for you. If you can get beyond whether these are “right” or “wrong”, I think you’ll discover that these distinctions, listed as laws, can help you experience life more intentionally.
The first part of this series lists the ten laws and describes how these laws work (Basically, we answer the question: if I’m talking about pseudoscientific nonsense, why should you keep listening to me?). The subsequent posts will describe each of the laws in depth, and how they work.
The ten energetic laws are:
1. Fear and Possibility — These two things always show up in equal measure to one another
2. Relational Reciprocity — What you see in others, you hold either the mirror or the reciprocal for (their breakthrough is your breakthrough)
3. Giving and Receiving — You can give something precisely to the extent you can receive it, and vice versa
4. What you judge in others, will be expressed in your shadow — That which you despise in others, is in you
5. That which you resist, persists — Whatever you can’t be with will stick around
6. Love and Power — Your capacity to be powerful with someone is directly proportionate to your capacity to love them
7. Time and Capacity — You have exactly enough time for everything that is currently in your life, and nothing else
8. The Power of Your Beliefs — What you believe is possible is, and likewise for what you believe is impossible
9. Impact — You can impact people precisely to the extent you are willing to be impacted
10. Inertia – The inertia of the tenth energetic law is a function of the way our blind spots work.
Fundamentally, these laws work because the energy you put out into the world is a reflection of your internal state. There’s no cosmic arbiter, dispensing justice in the form of events and people that happen around you — it’s all simply a function of the way you show up in the world.
Here’s a really simple example of these laws in action. Let’s imagine you have a belief that there is no such a thing as a free lunch, and that people are generally always looking for an angle. People always have an agenda, and there are no gifts given without a string attached.
You will predictably judge other people for their lack of generosity and the angle they’re always playing. From this judgment, you’ll have a vested interest in making damn sure you don’t show up this way, and consequently, you’ll become more and more invested in *not* seeing yourself when you *do* show up this way. The more you judge something, the harder it is for you to come to terms, recognize and acknowledge the places when you do show up that very way.
This whole dynamic gives us the fourth law. Because you can’t see the places where you are lacking in generosity, you aren’t able to do anything to address them.
If I’m unconscious of the fact that I keep punching myself in the forehead, it’s going to be hard for me to deal with the headaches I’m having. I might go and take painkillers, I might find that when I jam my hands in my pockets things get better, but because I’m insistent that I would never do the very thing that is causing my problem, every solution is going to be a half-measure.
This is the nature of having a blind spot, and while you can’t see your own, you can certainly see it when your friends do it (and probably have familiarity with the experience of frustration that comes when you try to offer a solution and they simply explain it away.)
Over the next ten post in this series, we’ll cover each of these energetic laws, explaining how each of them is created and their impact.
